Removing stains is just one benefit in the big picture of carpet cleaning. Regular cleaning prevents and fixes problems you might not yet see and helps extend the lifecycle of your carpet. It also helps to eliminate fleas and dust mites, which if untreated, can lead to disease and allergies.

These are some of the top questions we’ve had regarding carpet cleaning services.

Q: How often should I have my carpets cleaned?
A: Having your carpets cleaned can help you have a healthier home by eliminating microorganisms that come from things like dust mites, food particles, soil, pollen, and bacteria. It also improves your overall indoor air quality.

While every home is different, most homes should have the carpet cleaned a minimum of once a year. If you have heavy traffic, children, or pets, you might consider deep cleaning every 6 months to help keep your carpets in great condition.

Q: Is there anything I should do before getting my carpet cleaned?
A: There is very little that you need to do to prepare your home for cleaning. In order to get to the entire carpet, technicians will remove any miscellaneous items that are resting on the carpet or furniture from the rooms being cleaned.

At Killingsworth, we will do a walk-through of your home before cleaning in order to inspect the carpet, tile, grout, and upholstery. During this time, we do any pre-vacuuming necessary and then pinpoint any stains that need to be cleaned.

Removing as much debris and dirt from the carpet fiber prior to the cleaning can help ensure your carpet cleaner focuses on the deep down soiled in dirt.

Q: What can carpet cleaning get out?
A: Just as you would expect, carpet cleaning removes ground-in dirt, stains, and odors and returns it to its former youth. What you might not expect is that is can also help treat and prevent fleas.

In addition to getting up any substance (from spilled beverages to mud and ink), you can also de-flea with our exclusive Flea TKO Treatment (link), which will protect your family and pets from carpet critters.

Q: Will carpet cleaning make my carpet soil faster?
A: Shorter answer: no. With the modern cleaning equipment and methods used by professionals, virtually all cleaning agents are rinsed out of your carpet so it will not attract dirt.

All detergents/spotting agents are applied to the carpet before cleaning and then only hot, soft water runs through the carpet wand to rinse your carpets clean.

Q: How long do I have to wait after cleaning?
A: Traditionally, carpets can take up to 24 hours to dry completely; however, our speed drying will allow you to go back into rooms in 2-3 hours.

Our truck-mounted vacuum system removes almost all of the moisture immediately, though your carpet or upholstery may still be damp to the touch. We recommend using fans in any rooms that have been cleaned, as well as turning on an air conditioning or heating system to help accelerate drying time.

Be sure to leave the protective blocks under the furniture lets and any paper used with upholstered items until the carpet and/or furniture is completely dry to avoid a color transfer.

You may walk on your carpet immediately after cleaning, but avoid wearing outdoor shoes, as they may re-soil your carpet. Be especially careful when walking from damp, carpeted areas onto non-carpeted areas to avoid slipping. Also, try to keep pets and children off of the carpet for at least 6 hours.
